Nearly 15 years ago my father came up with an idea for a new invention which he thought was innovative in its concept and would be popular in the market place. As it would turn out his initial presumptions would be correct. He took his idea to a friend who had a factory, a prototype was soon made and applications for the applicable Intellectual Property obtained. What they had achieved up until now my father would describe as the easy part.

The next part was to find interested parties that were willing to develop, manufacture and build a retail network for the product both locally and overseas. This was easier said than done. There were many interested parties that all saw the merit of the invention and wanted to get involved but when it came to the crunch pulled out for one reason or another. As a consequence over a period of years my father and his friend eventually became less and less interested and eventually the invention was left to sit on the shelf.

From my perspective, I sat back and watched the story develop and build and then slowly die off. Although my first instinct was to try and get involved and help, I wasn’t qualified and didn’t have the skills required so. All I could do was sit back watch from the sidelines. This to me was frustrating seeing something with such great potential die away the way it did. It was very sad indeed.

It’s funny though how life can turn out and it wasn’t until just over a year ago that all the pieces finally fell into place. I’d gotten involve with a friend a year earlier promoting his invention on the internet and through a series of circumstances that evolved through my involvement in that project the final pieces of the puzzle suddenly fell into place.

What we needed to was now at our finger tips. To cut a long story short I went to my father and his friend with a business plan and now 1 year later we have everything in place to start manufacturing and retailing the product both locally and overseas.

As a consequence over the years I’ve witnessed firsthand just how hard it is to introduce a new invention to the marketplace and I’ve also become very aware that some of the key ingredients are obviously promotion, marketing and exposure to the market. Exposure can mean contacts and it also can mean sales.

Many new inventors and innovators believe the their new invention is the next best thing and expect the all that they have do is show it to someone and then 6 months later it will be a hit. As you can see this leaves about 13.03 for profit. Can you see now that there is a lot more to running a business then what someone might think. Yes, there are some plumbers that work out of their homes, have no real advertising costs, and do everything for themselves. These companies might make more per billable hour, but they have a lot more non billable hours to work. For instance when I first started I worked about 45 billable hours per week, and about 20 non billable hours each week. Not counting any overhead if I charged 85 per hour for 45 hours but worked 65 hours then my real hourly rate was only 58.85. Which when you think about the fact that I could work for any plumbing company in the city and make between 41-47 per hour the risk reward ratio is not as high as what you may have thought. One other thing I have not mentioned is that there are many clients out there that rip off the people that work for them. These are called losses. 

After reading this you might think why would anyone want to do this? There is a lot of enjoyment that goes along with building your own company. And as you build you do make more money, plus when you are ready you can sell off the company for a capital gain.

Introduction

When you think of the word ‘Balloons’ what ideas appear in your mind? The balloons are used for many differing purposes, and decorated in numerous ways to fit the event.

Some balloons are purely for decoration, others are ideal for specific uses because of their low density and relatively low cost. The balloon’s properties have led to them being used in a wide range of other applications in the areas of meteorology, military defense, medical treatment, and transportation.

Party Balloons

The most common and familiar types of balloons are the party balloons. Helium Balloons

Water Balloons

The water balloons are often smaller than regular balloons and made from thin rubber so that they can be easily broken. In the late 1970s along came the foil balloon. These are made of thin non-stretch metalized plastic film or mylar. It is a relatively low cost way of creating a festive atmosphere at the party climax, so everyone goes away feeling they have had a really good time.

If you want to create a balloon drop for your own event you will need to set up a large plastic bag or net overhead, which is suspended at a certain height.
